How To Make A Claim

What do I do when I need to make a claim?
Listed below is a general guide to the actions that you, Niverville Insurance and your insurance company will take to settle your claim. Individual situations will vary, but most Insurance Companies follow a process like this one, which leads to a satisfactory settlement. The process starts with you.
  1. Notify the appropriate authorities (police, fire department, etc.) to report the incident that caused your loss. Take Pictures of the damage.
  2. If necessary, take steps to prevent further damage. For example if your shingles are pulled off in a wind storm, get the damaged area covered up with a tarp to prevent rain from coming inside (even if the means calling a roofer to do it for you). If you have sewer backup – pump out the water and get things dry as soon as possible.
  3. Contact Niverville Insurance with details of who, what, where, when and why. Discuss details of your policy with us if you are unsure about your coverage.
  4. Gather as much supporting proof for your claim as possible, Photos are excellent, also receipts, invoices, etc. Remember: While we and the insurance company want you to be satisfied with the settlement, it is up to you to prove your claim.
  5. Get a notebook and keep a diary in which you will record: to whom you talked, when, and what you and the other party discussed or agreed to do.
  6. You will be contacted by an adjuster who is assigned by the insurance company.
  7. The adjuster will investigate your claim, a process that you can expedite by having your information ready and co-operating fully.
  8. After discussions or negotiation with you, the adjuster will offer a settlement of the claim and may ask you to approve certain documents.
  9. Once a settlement is reached, the adjuster will arrange payment or replacement.
  10. Although almost all claims are settled by this stage, there are some cases in which the claimant cannot come to terms with the adjuster. If you find yourself in this rare position, contact Niverville Insurance about other solutions that may be open to you. We are here to help at anytime throughout the claims adjusting process.
  11. As a last resort, if all else fails, you still have the option of seeing a lawyer.
